This installment is done with the founder of Low Budget Pictures, Chris Seaver. Before I ask anything tell us more about Low Budget Pictures. I created Low Budget Pictures in Feb. of 1991. I guess I wanted to put a more “professional” name on what I had been doing with my friends in and around the town I grew up in, Wellsville NY. I think I was 13 or 14 at the time. But my passion for films really began when I was 7 years old and saw “Nightmare on Elm Street” on the big screen with my mom. After telling the fam I wanted to ‘do THAT kind of stuff’, I got a video camera for Christmas and never looked back. Making backyard goofery with my friends (we did LOTS of special FX shots, using blood my Grandma helped me make in a pot on our stove) led to me writing and making shorts, then longer flicks, with a lot of the same loyal friends. The early days of LBP involved the use of a huge VHS camcorder, a group of guys that were my best friends playing all the roles (including the female ones--our buddy with a flowing mullet often played the women’s parts), and just lots of geekery, laughs and bafoonery--not too far off from what we do today. Just a lot less technical and organized, and even more low budget. The influences were horror and comedy related. I loved Troma, Peter Jackson, Monty Python, Airplane, That sort of thing growing up, and alot of it wound up in my films early on. 1) You got some boneable bitches in your movies, how much fucking goes on with the cast during the filming and how does one (myself) become apart of the cast? The "bitches" as you would say are not really for fucking if you will, they are some of my dearest and most loyal of friends and I hvae NOT boned any of them...although I did end up married to one..so i guess I DO bone one of them...Yes indeed. As for being a part of LBP, just get in touch with me, show us your over acting skills and if you meld well with the gang then your pretty much in. Expand on how you met your wife, I always like to hear things kinds of things. I met my wife in 1998, we became fast friends, around 2002 she joined LBP and we became Best friends and in 2003 we began dating, 2005 we hitched and in 2007 we had our baby boy! Her name is Lauren P Seavage(stage name) Shes most famouse for playing Puggly in the Heather and Puggly films, we really mess up her looks in those flicks and she LOVES playing fucked up characters. 2) How did Teen Ape come to be? Teenape was a character that has its roots in a short I did back in 1991 called I was a Teenage Ape, that was of course a spoof of Teen Wolf. In 2000 When I was writing Anal Paprika 2 and throwing ideas around with my cousin, we both thought I should throw in a Teen Wolf referance but instead of it being a wolf, it can be the APE...That is where it started. As for his actions and the way he talks...He is sort of based on my Cousin Casey, to be honest he was a bit of a prick and he thought he could get any chic he wantes in his college days, we all thought he was a real turd hat and laughed about it a lot, so I wrote Teenape just like him...And took it over the top of course. He is also based on stereotypical Jocks and cocky pimps in 70's and 80's cinema I guess. 3) It's very clear that you try and be like Troma, why not do your own thing? Well I wouldnt say we try to be like Troma, Troma was indeed a big influence on me growing up, And I guess some of the films from around the 2000-2002 era had a feel like them, but we are WAY different than troma. If you were to watch one of our flicks and a troma flick back to back, you would see very clearly that LBP is its own style, and in fact Many magzine, TV and online reviews have stated as much. Troma has been good to us though. For about 10 years now we have been very good friends with Lloyd and the Troma team and in fact Troma is producing my new film shooting this summer. To me Film Crew was like a mesh of Midnight Movie and Terror Fimer. Wet Heat seems to be a Tromas War without all the special effects. Not saying they aren't entertaining but to me it seems (only seen four of you movies for right now) that you are very very similar to Troma. Well Film Crew is me poking fun at Clerks AND a slasher film. I worked at a movie theater for 3 years and I saw and heard a LOT of stupid and weird shit come outta that place so I wrote a movie about it. Almost every character in the film is based on someone I worked with and actually one of the commentaries is from the REAL film crew(Where we worked we were called a film crew instead of a staff) Caspian and Bubbles of course are LBP universe characters that have popped up here and there. And Wet heat was us poking fun at the 80s action genre like Escape rom new york(hardcore) Terminator and Total Recall. I actually have only seen troma's War twice and I'm NOT a fan. My fave Troma movie is Class of Nuk'em high. 4) How long does it take to make one of you films? To make a 60-90 minute flick for us it takes 2 to 3 days. That's actual shooting time. And that is no joke. I push the gang a LOT. We soldier throgh it hard core. Film Crew is a 65 minute movie and that took us a combined 16 hours to shoot. Deathbone is 90 minutes and that took 3 days. Our biggest and longest shoot coming up is 5 days, then one day for a break and then another 3 days to shoot ANOTHER movie for Tempe Entertainment, so basically 2 feature length flicks in 10 days or so...We tend to make about 5 movies a year. 5) Do you pay your actors or just feed them very well while making the movie(s)? Well for the most part everyone you see in the flicks are my friends. We do from time to time pay for the actors coming from New Mexico or NYC, Or Toronto and LA...but not much. Yes we do have food and its your standard chinese, pizza, and ribs style eating. Good times. I can't say enough amazing things about the LBP crew, they truly go above and beyond for my B-movie trash or "High Garbage". 6) What do you think of the state of Hollywood movies today? Well To be honest some suck and some rock. I think there is a definate lack of original material being made, BUT I don't mind sequels and reboots and all of that. I'm a geek so I could sit and watch Transformers part 6 and Spider-Man 12..sure some of them have sucked and will suck, but It's not going away so why bitch about it. You find the diamonds in the rough and to me it has always been that way. That's one of the reasons I make the movies I make. Nobody else is making them like this. 7) What is your fav movie out of the LBP library? I don't have one yet...but I will say I'm very fond of Film Crew, Karaoke Kid, Wet Heat, Heather and Puggly Cock Block The Apocalypse,Bonejack Hill and Blood Fart Lake. 8) What do your friends and family think of your movies? Well the majority of my friends are IN the movies so they love it. My family is very supportive and always have been. They knew I was a fucked up kid REAL early. 9) Do you ever get some play by telling the ladies or dudes that you are the found or a movie company? No, I'm married so I get my play from the wife (who happens to also be in 16 of my films) However truth be told I have gotten requests by some female fans through out the 18 years of doing this and I must say, its pretty damn hilarious! 10) Why are all your flicks around the 60min mark? The flicks range from 60 to 75 to 90. I feel that with movies like this, with these over the top plots and characters and what nots, you need to hit hard, hit fast, get in and get out. Just give a real entertaining punch to the loins and flick a fond fart in the wind when its all said and done. There are WAY too many indie or mainstream movies for that matter out there that just take SOOO much time to get to the point. Or they take this Movie making biz a little too serious and over blow themselves. With LBP its best to drop a bomb and then run before you over stay your welcome. And Now 3 Qs that have nothing to do with movies 1) Playstaion or XboX? Well I'm NOT a gamer, I'm one of the most geek merch loving geeks you could know, but THAT just does not do it for me. I do own a playstation 3 but I use it as my Blu Ray player. 2) Have you ever given yourself the octopus? No But I have given myself an angry Dutchman and it hurts so good. 3) How do you feel about 70's bush? Christy Canyon....nuff said. After asking if he wanted me to promote any websites he said this. NO!!!!!! Now get off my lawn! I'm feeling nice so if you want to know more about Low Budget Pictures head over to www.lowbudgetpictures.net
